Company Background

ChemRisk® is a scientific consulting firm that specializes in using risk assessment methods to characterize and provide improved understanding of complex exposures involving chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and radionuclides in a variety of potentially contaminated media. We have more than 50 scientists experienced in addressing environmental, health and safety concerns, with backgrounds including toxicology, industrial hygiene, epidemiology, ecotoxicology, environmental sciences, medicine, statistical analysis, chemical fate and transport modeling and risk assessment.

ChemRisk® scientists have conducted hundreds of assessments to understand the potential human and ecological health risks posed by industrial chemicals released to the environment, consumer products, pesticides and food additives. Because ChemRisk® scientists have pioneered and helped popularize many of the approaches used in the risk assessment field, both in the U.S. and abroad, we are confident that few other firms can equal our ability to confront the multi-layered issues that arise when humans are exposed to chemical agents and radionuclides.

Work Area Details
Dossier preparation & data management
Only representative
Through our partner REACHLaw Ltd. Helsinki, Finland, we are in the position to offer Only Representative (OR) services to US manufacturers under REACH, independently from other actors in the supply chain. ChemRisk supports the collection of data for registration from the customer, and can assist with development of scientific information to be used in registration (including toxicology studies, and exposure characterization). The OR service package includes all registration services, notably pre-registration of phase-in substances, representation in pre-SIEF, SIEF and Consortia and preparation and submission of registration. Customer benefits: Protect your confidential business information, enable you to concentrate on your core business, and comply with minimal effort.
Pre-registration/Registration
Together with our partner REACHLaw Ltd. in Helsinki Finland we manage pre-registration and registration under REACH for US-headquartered manufacturers. Depending on the companies’ specific needs REACHLaw Ltd. can either act as an Only Representative (OR) or support their EU subsidiaries as registrants in REACH (pre-)registration, whereas ChemRisk supports the collection of data for (pre-)registration from the customer and provides risk assessment and toxicology support as needed. For EU subsidiaries, an initial risk analysis can be conducted to identify the associated risks and liabilities. Customer benefit: Access to leading expertise in the United States, coupled with strong support in the EU.
Risk assessment (environmental)

ChemRisk provides state-of-the-art ecotoxicology services. Our senior scientists have conducted hundreds of risk assessments for all classes of chemicals and consumer products. We have developed novel ecotoxicology test methods to evaluate chemical exposure and effects in both terrestrial and aquatic scenarios.

ChemRisk offers a complete range of services related to environmental risk assessment, including:

  • Review of environmental fate data and chemical profiles
  • Development of ecotoxicity testing programmes and evaluation of test data
  • Detailed, realistic exposure assessment through the use of sophisticated models
  • Calculation of PNECs from empirical data
  • Complete environmental risk assessments
Risk assessment (human)
ChemRisk scientists are expertly qualified in the field of human health risk assessment having conducted at least 1,000 risk assessments throughout the company's history. Our scientists are highly skilled in the areas of toxicology and exposure assessment; bringing significant, in-depth knowledge of mammalian models of toxicity, molecular toxicology and environmental fate and transport modeling. We have conducted original research on various topics including bioaccessibility/bioavailability, PBPK modeling and environmental exposure which have allowed our clients to refine their chemical risk assessments and provide the most accurate characterization of the potential for health risk to workers, consumers and the general public.
