Sweden pledges EU push on global mercury treaty and greenhouse gases under ozone treaty

Launching its six-month EU Presidency today, the Swedish government pledged that it would "promote an active role for the EU in negotiations on a global convention on mercury" this autumn (CW 17 February 2009).
It also intends to push for controls on substances that are also greenhouse gases under the UN Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer (CW Briefing June 2009).
