TiO2 nanoparticles can damage mice DNA, say scientists
09-Nov-2009
Scientists in the USA have published research in the journal Cancer Research that they say demonstrates that titanium dioxide nanoparticles can cause DNA damage in mice.
Also, a group of UK scientists have published a paper in the journal Nature Nanoetchnology claiming that nanoparticles can damage human fibroblast cells across an intact cellular barrier without having to cross the barrier. In this case, the experiment invovled cobalt-chromium nanoparticles. The indirect damage is caused, they say, by signals transmitted through the cellular barrier.
