EU Commission consults on strategic nanotechnology action plan

22 December 2009

The European Commision has opened a public consultation that seeks views on the new EU strategic nanotechnology action plan for 2010-15. The consultation closes on 19 February.

The consultation asks whether an inventory of types and uses of nanomaterials, including safety aspects, should be established, and whether there should be labelling of the "nano-content of consumer products". It also asks whether "new specifically targeted regulation for nanotechnologies - especially related to Nano-bio-cogno applications" should be developed.

Last month the Commission published an implementation report on the current action plan which said research funding should be increased “to keep up with the pace of development and marketing of new applications” (CW 3 November 2009).
