German environment group raises issue of plastic toy toxicity

BUND, the German branch of environmental group Friends of the Earth, has issued a statement to coincide with the Nuremberg International Toy Fair accusing plastic toy manufacturers of producing toys that frequently contain toxic substances. It said these include hormonally active substances such as plasticisers, brominated flame retardants and organotin compounds, and added that neither REACH nor the EU toys Directive adequately protected children's health.
