Wisconsin becomes third US state to ban BPA in baby bottles

05-Mar-2010

On Wednesday Wisconsin became the third US state, after Minnesota and Connecticut, to introduce legislation restricting the use of bisphenol A in in baby bottles and sippy cups. Senate Bill 271, the BPA-Free Kids Act, bans the manufacture or sale of new baby bottles or cups for children aged three years or younger that contain BPA. The bill also requires that manufacturers and stores selling these bottles or cups clearly state that they are BPA-free, and creates a fine for manufacturers or wholesalers found guilty of violating the rules.

Similar legislation is being consideredbyn the state of Pennsylvania, which in January held hearings into House Bill 221, which would prohibit the manufacture, sale or distribution of certain child care articles containing BPA.
