Industry updates melamine cyanurate flame retardant C&L as REACH data indicates stronger toxicity

The Phosphorus, Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants Association (Pinfa) have issued a statement regarding new test data that reveals that melamine cyanurate has a stronger kidney toxicity than previously known. The substance’s classification and labelling has been updated. Melamine cyanurate is used as a flame retardant mainly for unfilled and mineral filled polyamides found in electric and electronic parts such as connectors and switches. Further testing is still ongoing to confirm the findings.
