Amended POPs treaty enters into force

Revisions agreed last year to the UN Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) came into force yesterday. The changes added nine substances to the convention: pentabromodiphenyl ether (pentaBDE), chlordecone, hexabromobiphenyl (HBB), alpha-hexachlorocyclohexane (alphaHCH), beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (betaHCH), lindane, commercial octabromodiphenyl ether (c-octaBDE), pentachlorobenzene (PeCB) and perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS).
