MEP calls for ban on formaldehyde in textiles
29-Apr-2008
MEP Frieda Brepoels of the centre-right European Peoples Party has asked the European Commission to take action to curb the content of phthalates, formaldehydes, dyes and other hazardous substances in children's clothing. Her concern follows a survey by Belgian consumer group Test Aankoop that found the chemicals in 15 brands of pyjamas for children aged 2-3. According to the group, three brands contained excessive levels of phthalates, one contained a banned dyestuff and two contained excess formaldehyde.
