INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW Significant efforts to enhance chemicals management regulations continue to be made both domestically and abroad. In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency is initiating a comprehensive approach to enhance the Agency’s current Chemical Management Program under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA). The Agency recently finalized its Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) Rule for 2012 and proposed plans to identify priority chemicals for review and assessment. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is preparing to issue a final rule to revise its Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard to conform with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labeling of chemicals in the workplace. In Europe, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched the ‘REACH 2013 - Act Now!’ campaign to remind industry to start preparing for the second Registration Evaluation and Assessment of Chemicals (REACH) registration deadline. In addition, a number of Asia-Pacific economies (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, etc.) are establishing or revising their current chemical control regulations and inventories and implementing GHS. |
