EU scientific committee to examine mercury in light bulbs, barium in toys

The European Commission has requested the Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) to prepare an opinion on the risk to children from mercury in energy saving light bulbs.
The Commission has also requested the Committee to recommend a tolerable daily intake (TDI) of barium, to be used in the risk assessment of toys.
