Human Product Safety Specialist Manchester £ Competitive + Benefits Working with the Product Safety Team in the provision of a central service for the assurance of safety and compliance with the relevant legislation of all consumer products and raw materials. Key Responsibilities:- -
To evaluate the toxicity and potential issues relating to raw materials new to the business, new uses of existing raw materials and new sources of existing raw materials. -
To undertake the evaluation of fragrances and assess suitability for the proposed end use taking into account IFRA and internal guidelines, labelling legislation and published data. -
To undertake the safety/risk assessment of the potential consumer and occupational hazard/toxicity of product development (new and modified products), before manufacture and launch. Taking into account history of use of similar products, raw material toxicity and any other data on human experience or toxicity. Proposing business appropriate risk management measures as required. -
To apply a good understanding of the legal requirements to new and reformulated products in terms of raw materials content, labelling and packaging requirements. -
To organise testing at third party laboratories to support safety/health/skin/eye product claims, modifying and developing protocols as required. -
To ensure compliance on an individual and departmental level for the company’s Health & Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, standards and regulations. Key Competencies:- -
Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent in biological, chemical or similar science discipline. -
Either in possession of or working towards a higher level of scientific knowledge via further study/experience in toxicology/product safety. This knowledge will be applied to product safety concerns, new product developments, new legislation and to existing products. -
The ability to apply a high level of knowledge of product safety legislation and of toxicology principles to the assessment of risk in relation to product use and foreseeable misuse. -
Able to identify and agree corrective actions if required to ensure projects are delivered on time and to quality standards. -
Ability to accept, suggest and implement continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency. Able to lead the implementation of scientific / legislative change initiatives within the team and company. -
Ability to interact and influence others to develop relationships to ensure a positive outcome for all. -
