US Congressional committee to hold hearing on cosmetics ingredient safety

The US House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health has scheduled a hearing on cosmetics ingredient safety for 27 March 2012. The current witness list for the hearing, which is entitled “Examining the Current State of Cosmetics”, includes the director of the US Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, which is responsible for regulating cosmetics, the chief scientist for the Personal Care Products Council, and cosmetics industry representatives. According to the coalition of environmental health organisations, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the hearing is the first official Congressional hearing on cosmetics safety in more than 30 years.
