NGO complains to EU Commission about Efsa EDC opinion

The Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe has written to the EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy Tonio Borg complaining about the European Food Safety Authority’s (Efsa) opinion on endocrine disruptors. The NGO argues that Efsa is not mandated to add a scientific distinction between endocrine-active substances and endocrine disruptors and asserts that this distinction would create loopholes for industry and allow certain products containing EDCs to remain on the market.

In the letter, it also urges Commissioner Borg to consider banning all pesticides which are known from academic studies to be chemicals with endocrine disrupting properties.
