Industry proposes CLH for photoinitiator

ECHA has confirmed that industry has submitted a harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposal for 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropan-1-one. The substance has a number of uses, including as a photoinitiator in printing inks and coatings, and as a plastics additive.

The proposal seeks a CLH of carcinogen category 1B, which could have implications for the chemical's status as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) under REACH.

At present, ECHA's C&L inventory lists ten entries for the substance. The most supported joint entry by far, with over 450 notifiers, does not include a classification of carcinogenicity.
