California to evaluate 39 new chemicals, including BPA, under Proposition 65

The Californian Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has announced that 39 additional chemicals including bisphenol A (BPA), and butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) are being evaluated by the state’s Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) for potential addition to Proposition 65, the list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm under California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act 1986.

The office is accepting public comment from any companies or parties interested in the potential listing of these chemicals by 20 September, prior to the CIC's evaluation at a meeting on 12-13 October.
