The Americas reporter will join our busy, real-time newsdesk, ensuring we deliver accurate, balanced, well written articles to deadline for our flagship Chemical Watch website and its sister websites*. Reporting to the DC-based Americas desk editor, a key focus will be US and Canadian chemicals management policy at federal and state level, and the actions of legislatures, agencies, business organisations, companies and NGOs. He/she will also help cover voluntary business programmes.
Maintaining CWR’s reputation for informative, pertinent, accurate and timely content, the successful candidate will frequently attend press conferences, workshops and other events in DC and elsewhere.
News writing is the primary task but other tasks may also include writing occasional features, suggesting story ideas and contacts to the broader journalist team and other parts of CWR, such as Analysts, Events teams.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated recent journalism or law graduate, or journalist/ writer with a year or two's experience writing for a business readership on regulatory issues. The ideal candidate should have the ability and drive to rapidly learn about the complex agenda of chemicals management and regulation, and the business and scientific debates which surround it. You should be willing to help with public speaking at our events. While not essential, language skills, especially Spanish and Portuguese, would be an advantage.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
Salary negotiable. This is a full-time, permanent position. CWR operates a scheme to cover premiums on an individual health insurance policy and a tax-deferred retirement savings plan (401 K or similar). US-based employees are entitled to 19 annual vacation days plus US Federal National Holidays.
