ClientEarth’s Chemicals team is looking for a reliable, self-motivated lawyer to deliver and support strategic legal interventions that will push for a system that works to phase-out harmful chemicals in the EU and ensure they are replaced with safer alternatives.

The Chemicals team focuses on the EU’s chemicals legislation (REACH, CLP, nanomaterials) and related product legislation and policies (pesticides, plastics, cosmetics, food contact materials, etc), and there are opportunities to explore working on the circular economy. The role will involve analysing complex legal questions and policy scenarios and producing high-quality outputs, including public facing briefings, court pleadings and regulatory complaints.

The successful candidate will have a legal background, with experience of applying legal research and using legal processes in a practical way, preferably in an EU Member State, and an interest in using their skills to support public-interest environmental advocacy work. They will be professional and confident, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and haveknowledge of EU policies and laws relevant to chemicals and/or pesticides, and related fields.

This is a maternity cover role and ideally the role will commence in the first week of December 2018, continuing through to summer 2019. The role can be offered on a full time or part time basis (at 80% FTE), and in the ClientEarth Brussels office (preferred) or London office.
