Exponent's European Chemical Regulation & Food Safety Centre specialises in timely high-quality, creative and practical solutions to problems that affect our clients ability to conduct business globally. Our experienced staff include both technical and regulatory consultants who are practiced in dealing with pesticide and non-pesticide products including conventional chemicals, biochemicals, microbials, biocides, cosmetics, consumer products and products of biotechnology and with foods, food ingredients, and nutrition.

We are currently recruiting for a Pesticide Residues/Dietary Exposure consultant for a Senior Managing Scientist level position, who will be a member of the pesticide residues/dietary exposure team in the Human Health group of Exponent International based in Harrogate, UK.

The job holder will undertake a range of projects in the area of dietary exposure and risk assessment for crop-protection chemicals, working closely with internal project managers and external clients, in a team of skilled and committed experts.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provision of high-level strategic advice to Exponent’s clients on questions around dietary safety and registration of agrochemicals, biocides and other chemicals
  • Interpretation of regulations and guidelines relating to agrochemical registration and MRL-setting, especially in the EU
  • Managing and working on a range of projects, working closely with internal project managers and external clients
  • Management, training and development of colleagues
  • Interpreting and summarising data from scientific studies, drawing sound scientific and regulatory conclusions to prepare high-quality regulatory submission documents and other responses or inputs to authorities on behalf of client companies
  • Developing a trusted reputation with a base of client contacts

Qualifications for this position include:

  • B.Sc. degree or equivalent in a chemical discipline
  • Motivation to establish a reputation as an expert consultant
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong team working and leadership skills
  • Sound judgement
  • Decision-making ability

Desirable experience or knowledge would include any of:

  • Understanding of regulatory/authorisation procedures for crop-protection chemicals, biocides or industrial chemicals, especially in the EU
  • The metabolism of organic compounds in plants or animals
  • Analytical chemistry, especially of crop-protection chemicals
  • The principles of exposure characterisation and risk assessment
  • Placement and conduct of scientific studies under GLP
  • Interpretation of data from scientific studies
